Slutsky commented on Poroshenko's words about Crimea

The statement of former Ukrainian President Petr Poroshenko about a "unique chance" to return Crimea looks like agony, at the same time, the world community has a "unique chance" to recognize the decision of Crimeans to join the Russian Federation, said the head of the State Duma Committee on International Affairs Leonid Slutsky.

Earlier, Poroshenko said that Kiev  had a "unique chance" to strengthen the solidarity of the international community and "return" Crimea since Russia was allegedly "unable" to provide financing for the Peninsula.

"Poroshenko's statements about a "unique chance" for the return of Crimea to Ukraine are delirium and agony. Unrealistic promises will not restore the trust of the people, which was actually lost by the ex-President a year ago following the results of the elections. Crimea will never return to Ukraine again. The Peninsula is part of the Russian Federation on the basis of the legitimate will of its citizens, this issue is closed once and for all. That's all," Slutsky told reporters.

According to him, references to the deep crisis in Russia and the inability to provide funding for the Crimea - "also from the category of sick fantasies." Slutsky stressed that the Peninsula lives and develops rapidly, despite all types of blockades undertaken under Poroshenko.

"I would say that the international community, starting in 2014, has a "unique chance" to recognize the truth and fair choice of the Crimeans to reunite with Russia. And sooner or later, it will undoubtedly be used," the head of the Duma Committee concluded.
