The construction of a mosque named after the 1,100th anniversary of the adoption of Islam by the Volga Bulgaria state is included into the plan of preparations for the celebrations. A total of 71 events have been approved as part of the plan, the Russian government website reports.
"In honor of the anniversary celebration in Kazan, the issue of building a complex of the Cathedral mosque named after the 1,100th anniversary of the adoption of Islam by the Volga Bulgaria, including a museum, a library and exhibition and lecture halls, is being worked out," the report says.
Deputy Prime Minister Marat Khusnullin was quoted as saying that 71 events were approved within the plan, including the creation of the scientific center for preservation, research, popularization and introduction of Islamic manuscript sources stored in different libraries and scientific institutions in Kazan. In addition, a number of scientific, cultural and educational events are planned to be held in the region, which will not only show the significance of the adoption of Islam by the Volga Bulgaria for the unification of people, but also strengthen Russia's authority in the Islamic world.
"A number of planned events have not only federal but also international significance. They include a meeting of the Group of Strategic Vision "Russia - Islamic World" with the participation of the leadership of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation, the International Economic Summit "Russia - Islamic World: KazanSummit". Events during the 45th session of the UNESCO World Heritage Committee, which will be held in Kazan, will reveal the potential of the rich theological heritage of Russian Muslims and enhance the image and prestige of the country in the Islamic world. It will demonstrate to the world community Russia's unique civilization development, the close intertwining of Eastern and Western cultures and harmonious interaction between religions," the press service of the Russian government quotes Tatarstan President Rustam Minnikhanov.
The approved plan also includes events in the Ulyanovsk region, Nizhny Novgorod, Moscow and other regions.
