The Federal Security Service of Russia announced the detention of the leader of Tatarstan branch of the terrorist organization Hizb ut-Tahrir al-Islami, banned in Russia. This was reported to TASS by the Center for Public Relations (CPR) of the Federal Security Service of Russia.
"The Federal Security Service, in cooperation with units of the Federal National Guard Troops Service and the Russian Interior Ministry, detained the leader of the Tatarstan branch of the international terrorist organization Hizb ut-Tahrir al-Islami (banned in Russia by decision of the Supreme Court in 2003) as part of a special operation in the Republic of Tatarstan," the CPR reported.
According to the FSB, the detainee "disseminated militant Islamist terrorist ideology, combined with intolerance towards other religions, among Russian residents and also recruited Russian Muslims into the ranks of the international terrorist organization".
Hizb ut-Tahrir propaganda materials banned in Russia were found at his place of registration and place of actual residence, as well as communications equipment and electronic media used for terrorist activities, the CPR noted. A criminal case was initiated. Investigative measures and investigative actions are continuing.
