Cooperation in the agro-industrial sector is identified as a crucial area of collaboration between Tatarstan, a Russian region, and the Turkish province of Konya. The two regions also see potential in fostering ties in culture, tourism, science, and education, according to Rustam Minnikhanov, the head of Tatarstan, during a meeting with Vahdettin Ozkan, the governor of Konya province.
Minnikhanov is currently on a working visit to Konya, Turkey, where he is scheduled to meet with the province's governor, the mayor of Konya, and the chairman of the Industrial Chamber. He will also visit the "Imash" plant, specializing in agricultural equipment, and the "Tumosan" plant, which manufactures tractors.
Highlighting the business potential between Tatarstan and Konya, Minnikhanov emphasized the developed agriculture and industry in both regions. He regarded cooperation in the agro-industrial complex as a key area of joint work, while also acknowledging the promising prospects in culture, tourism, science, and education, as reported by the press service of the head of Tatarstan.
Minnikhanov further noted that the trade turnover between Turkey and Tatarstan doubled last year, amounting to $1.2 billion, with the growth trend continuing this year.
Vahdettin Ozkan acknowledged Tatarstan as one of Russia's leading regions and highlighted Konya's status as Turkey's largest province with a well-developed agro-industrial sector. He agreed that there are ample opportunities for cooperation between the two regions.
Konya, known for its agricultural and agricultural engineering sectors, also boasts a thriving industry encompassing automotive component manufacturing, furniture production, and machine tool industries. The province is home to 13 large organized industrial zones (OIZ) and 95 industrial parks, hosting around 8,600 companies.
