Muftiyat of Tatarstan called to feed the needy on Kurban Bayram

The Religious Board of Muslims of Tatarstan has announced the launch of a charity campaign on the occasion of the upcoming Kurban Bayram holiday, as part of which the meat of sacrificial animals will be distributed to those in need, the organization'd  press office said.


The Feast of Sacrifice Kurban-Bayram (in Turkic), or Eid al-Adha (in Arabic), is one of the main holidays of Muslims. It is celebrated on the tenth day of the month of  Dhul-Hijahj of the Islamic lunar calendar and lasts three days. This year it falls on July 31. It is customary to sacrifice sheeps, bulls or camels on this holiday. As noted by the Muftis, Kurban Bayram represents the worship that Muslims perform with the help of their property and allows through donations to show their generosity,and piety.

 

 

"On the eve of Kurban Bayram the charity fund "Zakyat"  announces the traditional charity campaign "Feed the needy". As part of the initiative, anyone can buy a lamb from the Zakyat fund and give the whole donated meat to the poor, disabled, people in a difficult situation, orphans," said the Muftiate's press service.


Last year, the fund held a similar campaign.  1150 people in need of "different nationalities and religious affiliation" received food aid. Among those who received the meat of the sacrificial sheep from the muftiate were poor and large families, disabled, orphans, single elderly people, as well as social institutions throughout the Republic of Tatarstan: hospices, boarding schools, madrassahs, charity foundations.
