Russian Security Council Secretary Nikolai Patrushev begins a two-day trip to Tatarstan on Tuesday.
The press service of the Russian Security Council reported that on the first day, May 31, he will hold "a meeting on topical issues of national security in the regions of the Volga Federal District (VFD)." The event will be attended by Igor Komarov, Plenipotentiary Representative of the Russian President in the Volga Federal District, heads of the Volga regions, and representatives of federal ministries and departments.
On June 1, Patrushev will visit one of the districts of Tatarstan. "On Children's Day, the Secretary of the Security Council of Russia will meet with students of a cadet boarding school, get acquainted with the organization of sports recreation in rural areas, discuss issues of improvement of rural settlements, the prospects for the development of health and education," the press service said.
A tradition of district meetings
The secretary of the Security Council holds regular meetings on urgent security issues in various federal districts. Patrushev traditionally takes up not only current issues, but also sums up the results of the decisions made at the previous meeting under his leadership in the same district.
The previous such event was devoted to the situation in the South of Russia. It was held in Astrakhan on April 27. Among other things, it touched on issues related to the special military operation in Ukraine. As Patrushev pointed out, in particular, the risks of the introduction of pathogens of dangerous diseases from the territory of this country are now significantly increasing.
In this connection, special attention was paid to measures to ensure biological security, including in view of the US and its allies' military-biological activities near Russian borders. Recommendations on due assurance of anti-terrorist security of facilities where biological, chemical and radioactive substances are produced, stored and processed were given.
Situation in the Volga Region
Patrushev had discussed the situation in the Volga federal district last June at the district-level meeting. Then participants of the meeting paid special attention to problems of environmental security. In particular, additional measures for neutralization of threats associated with aggravation of environmental situation were considered.
An accent was made on the theme of liquidation of accumulated damage to the environment, reduction of air, water and soil pollution, as well as the problem of utilization and processing of waste. It was noted that the violations of environmental legislation detected in the Volga Region pose increased threats to environmental safety and require additional measures.
