Kazan hosted a meeting of leaders of Russia's major Muftiyats - head of the Central Religious Board of Muslims, Supreme Mufti Talgat Tadzhuddin, Chairman of the Spiritual Assembly of Muslims of Russia Mufti Albir Krganov and head of the Religious Board of Muslims of Tatarstan Mufti Kamil Samigullin, as the Religious Board of Muslims of the RT reported RIA Novosti news agency.
"The meeting of the three muftis was held in a warm and friendly atmosphere. The three muftis mainly talked about the specifics of this year's festive namaz (prayer), the preparations for the 1,100th anniversary of the official adoption of Islam in Volga Bulgaria, the system of Islamic education in Russia, etc. Kamil Hazrat acquainted muftis with the latest achievements of the Religious Board of the Republic of Tatarstan and priority directions of development of the muftiyat with the preliminary results of celebrating Eid al-Adha in Tatarstan," the statement says.
Earlier, Russian President Vladimir Putin instructed the Russian government and leadership of Tatarstan to prepare a proposal to celebrate the 1,100th anniversary of the adoption of Islam by the Volga Bulgars in the Volga region in 2022. The Chairman of the Council of Muftis of Russia Ravil Gaynutdin made a proposal to celebrate this holiday worthily on November 4 during the online meeting of Putin with the leaders of the largest religious associations of Russia. The organizing committee for preparing and holding the celebration was headed by Khusnullin.
Tatarstan President Rustam Minnikhanov stated that the organizing committee has already been created under his direction, the corresponding decree has been signed, and the work plan has been determined. According to the Head of the Republic, the forthcoming event is not only a holiday of Tatarstan but also a big celebration of Russia. He expressed his enormous gratitude to the Russian President for supporting the celebration of this date at the federal level and proposed to hold events not only in Tatarstan but also in all Russian regions where Islam is practiced.
Islam was officially recognized at the state level in Volga Bulgaria in 922. To commemorate this day, the festival " Izge Bolgar zhyeni" (Saint Bolgar gathering) has been held in Tatarstan since 1989. It attracts tens of thousands of people from all over the country and many compatriots from abroad. Since 2005 the holiday has been held with the support of the Ministry of Culture of Tatarstan, the executive committee of the World Congress of Tatars, the Religious Board of Muslims of Tatarstan and the Spassky municipal district of the republic.
