Tatarstan is looking for an opportunity not to lose ties with Turkish partners and expects to restore business activity in relations with Turkish Izmir, the press service of the President of Tatarstan reports following the meeting of head of the republic Rustam Minnikhanov with governor of Izmir province Yavuz Selim.
Minnikhanov is on a working trip to Izmir on Friday. This is the first international visit of the head of the republic after the lifting of restrictions imposed in connection with the pandemic of the new coronavirus infection.
"Despite the difficult epidemiological situation in the world, we are looking for opportunities not to lose touch with our partners, especially our Turkish brothers," Minnikhanov said during the meeting, noting the importance of returning to direct contacts.
According to the President, now it is necessary not only to fight against the consequences of the pandemic but also to think and act strategically taking into account new realities. Minnikhanov emphasized that the republic has big plans on the development of cooperation and called to activate work in this direction. "Russia is a big country. We invite Turkish business to Tatarstan to work all over Russia," he said.
The Governor of Izmir supported the initiative to strengthen business contacts.
The expansion of cooperation was also discussed at a meeting with Izmir Mayor Tunc Sawyer, whom Minnikhanov urged to bring relations between the regions to a higher level. "The pandemic has slightly stopped our activity, I think we will restore it all," the President of Tatarstan said.
Minnikhanov paid special attention to the organization of security issues in the conditions of the pandemic. Assuming that the coronavirus will not retreat quickly, he urged partners to learn to work in the new conditions.
