Iftars (will be held in mosques in Tatarstan during the holy month of Ramadan, but the number of participants will be limited, the local Muftiyat told RIA Novosti.
Muslims begin fasting on April 12 at sunset. Muslims must abstain from food and drink from sunrise to sunset, as well as devote time to prayer and recitation of the Koran. As the sun sets, believers gather for collective meals and special prayers.
"In connection with the sanitary and epidemiological situation in the republic, iftars in mosques will be organized with a number of restrictive measures. The number of participants in the evening meal may not exceed 100 people. The area of the iftar room should correspond to the calculation of 4 square meters per person. Parishioners shall have personal respiratory protection equipment. A total of 46 mosques will hold iftars in Kazan," the Muftiyat explained.
Apart from that, iftars will be held in all colonies of Tatarstan. The Muftiyat will organize special food rations and a possibility for prisoners to perform rituals.
During Ramadan, the Religious Board of Muslims of Tatarstan traditionally launches a charity campaign "Ramadan - Month of Good Deeds". Within its framework, assistance will be provided to all those in need. Last year, thanks to the support of concerned people, the Zakyat Charitable Foundation of the Tatarstan Religious Board managed to give away over 5.5 tons of food to 915 needy families of Kazan. The food basket included flour, cereals, sunflower oil, canned food, sugar, pasta, tea, fruit candy and sweets.
In addition, the organization specifies that funds will be collected for the treatment of seriously ill children. Last year, Muslims helped 12 children during the campaign.
