Xi Jinping Praises Tatarstan’s Role in Preparing for BRICS Summit

22 October

Chinese President Xi Jinping acknowledged Tatarstan's significant contribution to organizing the BRICS summit during a conversation with the republic's leader, Rustam Minnikhanov, upon his arrival at Kazan's airport.

“I've long anticipated visiting your republic. Thank you for the welcome. You have done an excellent job preparing for the summit in Kazan,” Xi said, addressing Minnikhanov, as shown in a video released by the press service of Tatarstan's leader.

The 16th BRICS summit, a key event during Russia’s chairmanship of the group, is taking place in Kazan from October 22 to 24. The BRICS alliance was established in 2006 by Brazil, Russia, India, and China, with South Africa joining in 2011. On January 1, 2024, Egypt, Iran, the UAE, Saudi Arabia, and Ethiopia became full members of the group. This summit in Kazan marks the first where these new members will participate. Representatives from over 30 countries are expected to attend.
