Russian president Vladimir Putin said that Russia would never allow the mass heroism of the Soviet people during the Great Patriotic War to be forgotten and slandered.
"We will never allow the unprecedented mass heroism of our ancestors on the battlefields and in the deep rear, where victory was also forged, to be forgotten, let alone slandered. The scale of the significance of the feat is still difficult to comprehend," he said at a meeting of the Pobeda (Victory) organizing committee.
Putin reminded that this year is marked by a number of important dates: the 80th anniversary of the beginning of the Great Patriotic War and the tragic events of its first most difficult phase, the beginning of the siege of Leningrad is also among them.
" Significant dates associated with the war are also part of our personal family history, which largely determines the reverent sacred attitude of the people of Russia to the heroes and chronicles of the Great Patriotic War. Our intransigence in defense of the honor and memory of the fighters against Nazism," said the head of state.
It is important that "we pass from generation to generation" all the truth about the great victory, Putin stressed.
