On Monday, the Russian Su-27 fighter intercepted two French Mirage-2000 jet fighters over the Black Sea, which were approaching the Russian border, the National Defense Management Center (NDMC, part of the Russian Ministry of Defense) told reporters.

According to the Center, radars of the Southern Military District detected two air targets approaching the state border of the Russian Federation over the Black Sea.  The Su-27 fighter plane was raised into the air to identify them.

"The crew of the Russian fighter identified the air targets as two Mirage-2000 jet fighters of the French Air Force, and then escorted them over the Black Sea water area. After the turn of foreign warplanes from the state border of the Russian Federation, the Russian fighter returned safely to the base airfield," the NDMC said.

They noted that there was no violation of the state border. The Russian Su-27 was flying in strict compliance with international air space regulation.
