President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev discussed on Tuesday with Russian Deputy Prime Minister Alexey Overchuk the development of economic cooperation between the two countries and the unblocking of communication between Baku and Yerevan. This is reported on the website of the Azerbaijani head of state.
"President Aliyev noted that the interaction between the two countries in the trade and economic sphere is at a good level, and expressed satisfaction with the implementation of the agreements reached," the report reads.
Aliyev expressed hope that the meeting of the Azerbaijan-Russian intergovernmental commission on economic cooperation held in Baku on Tuesday will discuss issues of increasing trade between the two countries and identify new areas of cooperation.
Referring to the opening of communications between Azerbaijan and Armenia, the president said that next year the Azerbaijani side will complete the construction of part of the railroad in its territory, which will connect the main part of the country with the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic through the Armenian territory. He specified that 60 km of this railway with a total length of 100 km have already been built. "As for the highway (will also connect the main part of Azerbaijan with Nakhchivan through the territory of Armenia - TASS), from the Azerbaijani side the works are carried out in full accordance with the schedule," Aliyev stressed. At that he regretted that Armenia still has not launched work in this direction, stressing that Yerevan has not even given the geographical coordinates of the road through its territory.
On November 9, 2020, the leaders of Russia, Azerbaijan and Armenia signed a joint statement on the full cessation of hostilities in the conflict zone around Nagorno-Karabakh. As a continuation of the settlement process, they met in Moscow on January 11, 2021. During that meeting, a new joint statement was signed, which, in particular, provided for the unblocking of all economic and transport communications in the region. At the same time an agreement was reached to create a trilateral working group at the level of deputy prime ministers to deal with this and other tasks. On the Russian side, the group is headed by Alexey Overchuk.
