Azerbaijan and Russia are moving steadily along the bilateral agenda, with trade turnover growing in the first six months, Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev said on Tuesday at a meeting with his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin.

"On the bilateral agenda <...> we are moving very steadily. The trade turnover for the first six months has grown. This is very important because we had a drop of more than 10% last year," the Azerbaijani leader said.

According to Aliyev, the two countries are actively increasing cooperation in the transport and transit sphere. "The North-South transport corridor transported 20% more goods than last year. So the corridor is already working," he added.

Touching upon cooperation in the humanitarian sphere, the President of Azerbaijan said that this year the first students graduated from the Baku branch of the First Moscow State Medical University named after Sechenov.

"We have more than a thousand students studying at our two branches - MSU and Sechenov University. There are more than 15 thousand Azeri students studying in Russia. 16 thousand Azeri students study the Russian Language in Azerbaijan. So there is such a large cohort of Azerbaijani youth who are already connected with Russia - in terms of language and communication and education. I think it's very important in passing our experience to the younger generation," Aliyev said.
