Russian Deputy Prime Minister Alexey Overchuk and Kazakhstan's Deputy Prime Minister Serik Zhumangarin discussed cooperation between the two countries in trade, economy, energy, and tourism during a meeting in Astana. The meeting between the co-chairs of the Intergovernmental Commission (IGC) on Economic Cooperation between Russia and Kazakhstan was reported on the Russian government's website.
"The Deputy Prime Minister emphasized that Kazakhstan is a key trading partner for Russia, ranking fifth on the list. The basis of mutual trade consists of metals, food products, and machinery in Russia's exports to Kazakhstan, while machinery, chemical products, and metals dominate imports from Kazakhstan. Their share in the structure of bilateral settlements amounts to 88%," the statement reads.
According to the statement, the IGC co-chairs "discussed in detail joint steps to develop cooperation in the spheres of transport and logistics, energy, agriculture, and reviewed the progress of tourism projects and prospects for deepening integration processes within the Eurasian Economic Union."
"We highly appreciate the readiness of the Kazakh side to expand our cooperation in the energy sector," - Overchuk noted. - "Together with Kazakhstan, we are interested in developing the North-South international transport corridor. The development of transport routes towards the People's Republic of China is also important to us."
The parties noted that the interaction between Russia and Kazakhstan within the framework of integration in the Eurasian Economic Union makes a significant contribution to strengthening bilateral relations.
