18 March 2022

Member-countries of the Eurasian Economic Union (EEU) reached an agreement on the gradual transition to settlements in national currencies, the head of the Russian Ministry of Economic Development Maxim Reshetnikov said on air of the Russia-24 TV channel.

"A very important issue that was discussed [at the Eurasian Economic Commission Council meeting] is the issue of mutual settlements in rubles. In other words, the duties that each country receives are then split in certain proportions, which are enshrined in the agreement of the union, and, accordingly, go into the budgets of the respective countries. Previously, all this was done using foreign currency. Today we have agreed on a gradual transition to the calculations in national currencies," said the Russian minister.

He stressed that for Russia it is very important that the Russian Federation receives the main duty calculation in rubles. "Thus we started to form a single ruble space", explained Reshetnikov.
