Egypt and Russia intend to increase the share of settlements in their national currencies, Egyptian Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry said on Tuesday, speaking at a joint press conference with Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov.
"We have long been working on developing appropriate mechanisms that will allow us, in a spirit of greater sovereignty, to use them [national currencies] in our trade transactions. <...> We intend to increase the volume of transactions in these currencies," he said.
Shoukry also added that the two sides "still have a series of consultations on this issue," and the two states "are committed to further work in this direction."
