Egypt has confirmed its interest in the Sputnik V vaccine, the Russian Ministry of Industry and Trade said in a statement following an online meeting between Minister Denis Manturov and Egyptian Minister of Trade and Industry Nevin Gamea.
"The Egyptian side confirmed its interest in the Russian Sputnik V vaccine. An agreement was reached to intensify practical cooperation both in terms of vaccine supplies and possible localization of its production in Egypt," the statement reads.
The sides also discussed the main issues of trade and economic cooperation including the creation of the Russian industrial zone in the Suez Canal region and the preparation of free trade agreement between EEU and Egypt.
More than 50 countries have applied for more than 1.2 billion doses of the Sputnik V vaccine. The vaccine for delivery to foreign markets will be produced by international partners of the Russian Direct Investment Fund (RDIF) in India, Brazil, China, Korea and other countries.
