The Indonesian Agency of Drug has given a positive review of the Russian vaccine Sputnik V. The drug may soon be approved for emergency use in the country, Indonesian Ambassador to Russia Jose Tavares told TASS at the Innoprom international industrial exhibition.
"Just recently, the Indonesian Agency of Drug visited Russia. It was negotiating with the Gamaleya Institute about the registration of Sputnik V in Indonesia. As far as I know, the agency completed its work in Russia, returned to Indonesia, and gave positive feedback on the Sputnik V vaccine. In my opinion, we can say that in the near future Indonesia may approve Sputnik V as a vaccine for emergency use," the agency interlocutor said.
He specified that the agency is now finalizing documents for further work.
Sputnik V may be of interest to companies in Indonesia that vaccinate their employees privately, Tavares said. "There are mass vaccinations going on in Indonesia, and there is a vaccination option where individual companies buy vaccines for their employees. And privately, such companies might be interested in buying the Sputnik V vaccine," he said.
As of July 3, Indonesia imposed a full lockdown on the island of Java and the province of Bali. On July 7, authorities extended the social restrictions to 43 localities outside Java and Bali.
