Iran anticipates transforming into a major transportation hub following the recently inked agreement with the Eurasian Economic Union (EEU) to establish a free trade zone, Mohammad Mohammadi-Bakhsh, the head of Iran's Civil Aviation Organization, said in an interview with IRNA.
"The fact that our country has access to open waters gives us an opportunity to carry out transportation of goods along the North-South corridor, and with the development of air transport communication with EEU member countries, Iran will turn into a major transport hub," affirmed Mohammadi-Bakhsh.
He highlighted Iran's strategic geographical position and its substantial experience in cargo transportation across various modes, emphasizing the immense potential for advancing air transport relations with EEU nations to cater to their specific needs.
The EAEU countries officially signed a comprehensive free trade agreement with Iran on December 25. The signing ceremony occurred during a meeting of the Supreme Eurasian Economic Council in St. Petersburg, where Russian President Vladimir Putin was in attendance.
