Britain is working to create an international coalition to help the world deal with its dependence on Russian hydrocarbons and is counting on the support of the UAE and Saudi Arabia. This is according to a statement issued by the Prime Minister's Office Tuesday night on the eve of British Prime Minister Boris Johnson's visit to Riyadh.
"The United Kingdom is forming an international coalition to deal with the new reality we face. The world must wean itself off Russian hydrocarbons <...>," said the head of the British government. - "Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates are key international partners in this. We will cooperate with them to ensure regional security, humanitarian issues and long-term stabilization of global energy markets".
On February 24, Russian President Vladimir Putin announced a special military operation in response to a request for help from the leaders of the Donbass republics. He stressed that Moscow's plans did not include the occupation of Ukrainian territories. After that, the United States, the EU, the United Kingdom, and a number of other states announced that they were imposing sanctions against Russian individuals and legal entities. Both the special operation itself and the reaction of Western countries to its implementation caused a sharp increase in energy prices in the world.
