Khusnullin: KazanForum Vital for Strengthening Ties with the Islamic World

16 April

Deputy Prime Minister Marat Khusnullin emphasized the significance of the international economic forum "Russia - Islamic World: KazanForum," scheduled to take place in Kazan from May 14 to 19, in bolstering ties with Muslim-majority countries. Khusnullin made this statement during a meeting of the organizing committee responsible for the event's preparation and execution.

"In the face of anti-Russian sanctions from unfriendly nations and escalating tensions in the Middle East, our forum holds a distinct responsibility to enhance and fortify Russia's connections with the Muslim world. It's encouraging to witness the growing interest in the forum from other countries and international organizations. This is evidenced by the substantial participation and the diverse geographical representation of last year's attendees, with over 16 thousand participants from 80 countries," he remarked.

Khusnullin highlighted the upward trajectory of trade turnover between Russia and member states of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), noting a 37% increase over the past three years, totaling $156 billion.

"Russia views Muslim-majority countries as reliable strategic partners. Their commitment to independent and autonomous policies on the global stage presents opportunities for joint ventures and exploration of new prospects," added the deputy prime minister, emphasizing the forum's role in reinforcing this partnership.
