During the energy forum in Vienna, representatives of the energy ministries of Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, and Uzbekistan signed an agreement on cooperation for the construction of the large Kambar-Ata-1 Hydropower Plant (HPP) on Kyrgyz territory, as reported by the press service of the Kyrgyz government.
The forum concluded with the establishment of a donor coordination committee for the construction of Kambar-Ata HPP-1, which includes financial institutions and organizations such as the World Bank, OPEC Fund, Asian Development Bank, Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank, Islamic Development Bank, and European Bank for Reconstruction and Development.
Additionally, an interagency agreement on cooperation for the Kambar-Ata HPP-1 project was signed between the Ministries of Energy of Kyrgyz Republic, Republic of Kazakhstan, and Republic of Uzbekistan.
Furthermore, during the forum, an agreement was signed between Kyrgyzstan and the International Finance Corporation to develop solar energy in the country. Preliminary agreements were also made on investor financing for the construction of the Kemin-Balykchy transmission line on Kyrgyz territory and the modernization of some electrical substations.
Akylbek Zhaparov, the head of the Cabinet of Ministers of Kyrgyzstan, represented the country at the forum and expressed confidence in the effectiveness of the event. He emphasized significant progress in establishing contacts and a common understanding of further actions. Zhaparov highlighted the importance of the established donor coordination committee for the realization of the national project - the construction of Kambar-Ata HPP-1.
Nearly 200 financial organizations and companies participated in the forum. The construction cost of Kambar-Ata-1 HPP is estimated to be over $4 billion. Once operational, it will address the electricity deficit in Kyrgyzstan.
