Lebanon counts on attracting Russian investments, including in the power sector. Appointed Lebanese Council of Ministers Chairman Saad Hariri said this on Thursday in Moscow during a meeting with Russian Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin.
"You know that the difficulties stem from the fact that so far we [in Lebanon] have not been able to form a government that would deal with comprehensive reforms. <...> I'm sure it will happen. <...> And when it happens, we will need external assistance as part of the implementation of reforms. And in this regard, we are counting on attracting investment from Russian companies in areas such as electricity, [the construction of] infrastructure, roads and so on. We will be ready to assist Russian companies in every possible way <...>," Hariri said, adding that in the current situation the Lebanese market could be quite promising for Russian business.
Hariri also expressed hope for continued cooperation with Russia in the fight against the coronavirus pandemic, especially taking into consideration "the difficult socio-economic situation in Lebanon" and the presence of 1.5 million Syrian refugees on its territory. In this regard, he recalled that Moscow is already helping Beirut by providing coronavirus vaccines, which are being actively used in the inoculation campaign that has begun in the country.
