Peskov: Putin had no contacts with Saudi Arabia ahead of OPEC+ decision

12 March 2021

Russian President Vladimir Putin did not hold talks with the leadership of Saudi Arabia on the eve of OPEC+ decision on the level of oil production, Dmitry Peskov, the head of state's press secretary, told TASS.

"No, he did not," he said, responding to a question about whether Putin had contacts with the Saudi leadership on the eve of the last OPEC+ ministerial meeting.

Peskov recalled that the Russian President praised the work of Deputy Prime Minister Alexander Novak, who oversees the OPEC+ negotiation process.

On March 4, the Ministers of the OPEC+ countries met to work out recommendations for oil production levels for April 2021. As a result of the negotiations, it was decided to keep next month's production levels at current levels. An exception was made for Russia and Kazakhstan, which would be able to increase production by 150 thousand barrels per day.

On March 10, Deputy Prime Minister Novak presented a report on the OPEC+ agreements at a meeting of the head of state with members of the government. Putin thanked the deputy prime minister for the work done, noting that it was challenging and productive.
