Rosselkhoznadzor has not coordinated the decision to ban imports of Azerbaijani tomatoes and apples in Russia with the Kremlin, the measures are based on the sanitary and epidemiological situation, Russian presidential press secretary Dmitry Peskov told reporters on Thursday.

"Rosselkhoznadzor does not have to coordinate this with the Kremlin. Of course, this is all done in cooperation with the Cabinet of Ministers, and there are clear criteria by which these decisions are made," the Kremlin representative said.

He noted that this decision of Rosselkhoznadzor is "related to viruses." "In the conditions of a pandemic, of course, special attention is paid to this," Peskov said. He repeated that Rosselkhoznadzor "has no such obligation to coordinate its actions with the Kremlin."

Starting from December 10, Rosselkhoznadzor banned the import of tomatoes and apples from Azerbaijan due to the detection of quarantine objects for the EEU - South American tomato moth and Oriental fruit moth. In addition, due to the detection of viruses of brown wrinkling of tomato fruits, as well as tomato spot wilt and Pepino mosaic, the import of tomatoes from several regions of Uzbekistan, Armenia and Turkey was banned.
