Qatar Airways, Qatar's national carrier, is working with the Russian authorities to increase the number of flights between the countries, Qatar Deputy Finance Minister for Economic Affairs Saud bin Abdullah Al-Attiyah said in an interview with TASS on the sidelines of the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum (SPIEF).
"Even from my personal point of view, it would be good to have daily flights because Russia is a wonderful, beautiful country. And, in general, tourism on both sides between our countries is such a very intense, developing industry. And it adds value to both countries," he said. - "And the CEO of Qatar Airways is working with the Russian government to provide more flights to Russia."
Earlier, the Qatari ambassador to Russia, Ahmed bin Nasser bin Jassim Al Thani, said that there are now direct flights between Moscow and Doha three times a week.
Meeting of the intergovernmental commission
The Deputy Finance Minister said that Doha and Moscow were working on the issue of holding an intergovernmental commission meeting in a face-to-face format as soon as possible.
"I hope it will be soon. There is no clear date on this yet, but this commission is very important for us," he said in response to a related question. - "This commission is chaired by the presidents of the chambers of commerce and industry because it's very important to us. And our ambassadors are working very closely together to ensure that this meeting takes place in the near future. We do not want to hold it virtually. We are starting to do it all live, face to face".
