State Duma Speaker Vyacheslav Volodin on Monday following a meeting with Mohammad Bagher Galibaf, chairman of Iran's Mejlis (unicameral parliament), called for creating as many conditions as possible for Russian and Iranian businesses to work together.
"We need to turn the dialogue to the concrete plane, to the development of relations in the field of energy, agriculture, transport, as much as possible to create conditions for the business of Russia and Iran to actively interact, so that new projects will be born," Volodin told reporters.
According to the Chairman of the State Duma, it is necessary to start preparations for holding a high-level meeting of the Russian and Iranian parliaments today, so that parliamentarians could gather in the republic "with invitation of representatives of business and executive power" by the middle of the year. The speaker of the State Duma also pointed to the need to restore trade ties affected by the consequences of the pandemic.
Volodin noted that Moscow and Tehran see "the damage caused by sanctions and trade wars." According to him, the US is waging trade wars openly against Russia, Iran and China, while against Europe they are waged in a camouflaged form. "We see what is happening on the energy market, where the United States is trying to promote its expensive gas to the European market to replace cheap Russian gas. This is the same trade war," Volodin said.
In this regard, the Chairman of the State Duma called unacceptable "the position of a number of countries - the United States, the European Union - when they prevent the spread of new drugs, vaccines". For his part, Ghalibaf said that in Iran the Russian vaccine against coronavirus has already begun to be used.
Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf flew to Moscow on Sunday, his first foreign trip as chairman of the Majlis. He is leading a parliamentary delegation that arrived at the official invitation of the chairman of the State Duma. Ghalibaf will be in Russia from February 7 to 9.
