The United States decided to withdraw from the Intermediate-Range Nuclear Forces Treaty (INF Treaty) because it prevented the Americans to achieve unilateral advantage over Russia that acknowledged American authorities, said the head of the International Committee of the Federation Council Konstantin Kosachev.
"Speaking to participants of the Republican party's national election convention, US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo said that "America left the harmful Treaty (meaning the INF Treaty - Kosachev) so that our country could build missiles to deter Russian aggression," the Senator wrote on Facebook.
According to him, for the first time was recognized what Russia was talking about all the time and what the US allies in NATO "silently swallowed": "The Intermediate-Range Nuclear Forces Treaty prevented the Americans to make a unilateral military advantage over Russia (how else can you deter "aggression"?)".
"Here is truly: if you want to know the plans of the Americans-look at what they accuse Russia of. The US says that Russia violates the INF Treaty and the OST and withdraws from the INF Treaty and the OST; that Russia meddles in American elections and meddles itself in the internal affairs of any unwanted states unceremoniously and only in its own interests; that Russia is involved in cybercrime while up to 75% of all cyber attacks in the world are managed from the United States, " Kosachev said.
"And it's everywhere. What's next? " the Senator concluded.
In 2019, the US withdrew from the Intermediate-Range Nuclear Forces Treaty (INF), accusing Russia of violating it. Moscow rejected such accusations and was ready to demonstrate the missile that raised questions and discuss the topic, but the US did not meet them halfway and withdrew from the Treaty unilaterally. The Russian Foreign Ministry stated that Moscow was not against involving other countries in discussions with the US on strategic stability issues.
