The Federation Council's Committee on International Affairs has re-elected Grigory Karasin as its chairman, a source attending the meeting reported to TASS. “The committee has decided to re-elect Grigory Borisovich as the chairman of the committee,” the source said.
The Federation Council is expected to confirm this decision at a plenary session. The need for the election arose following Karasin's reappointment as a senator after the recent single voting day. On September 11, Sakhalin Region Governor Valery Limarenko signed an order confirming Karasin's appointment as senator from the region. Karasin has been heading the International Affairs Committee since March 17, 2021.
According to the regulations, the chairman of the committee and their deputies are elected by a majority vote of the committee members and then confirmed by the Federation Council through a majority vote of the senators. The decision is formalized by a Federation Council decree.
