US subversive actions remain the main destabilizing factor in the implementation of the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) to resolve the situation around the Iranian nuclear program, a statement of the Russian Foreign Ministry following the participation of Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov in the ministerial meeting on the JCPOA in the form of a videoconference says.
"The main destabilizing factor in the process of practical implementation of the nuclear deal has been and remains the subversive actions of the United States, which does not give a rest to the idea that, despite their 'maximum pressure,' the JCPOA is preserved, UNSC Resolution 2231 is applied in the former mode, the notorious restart of previously canceled resolutions has not taken place," the Russian diplomatic office pointed out.
Lavrov also stressed that consistent fulfillment of existing agreements is the only way to normalize the situation.
All parties to the JCPOA on resolving the situation around Iran's nuclear program expressed their commitment to their obligations and the need to maintain them, the diplomatic mission pointed out. "The Russian side stressed that the recipes for the normalization of the JCPOA are laid down in it itself: it is a way of consistent implementation of the agreements by all the countries that developed and concluded them," the statement said.
The return of the US to the nuclear deal with Iran should take place without any preconditions, Lavrov said. "We assume that the return of the US to the JCPOA should take place without any preconditions. We are ready, together with other partners, to work substantially in this direction and to help the Americans to get on the path of correction. It's in our common interest," the Minister said.
Lavrov at the event stressed that Russia paid tribute to Iran's statements about its readiness to immediately return to full implementation of the nuclear deal as soon as the US does so. "We hope that this signal will be heard not only by the current parties to the JCPOA but also in Washington. Strict compliance by the US side with the provisions of UNSC Resolution 2231 is not a matter of choice, but an obligation of any state enshrined in Article 25 of the UN Charter," the Russian Foreign Ministry said.
The ministerial meeting resulted in a joint statement. The countries participating in the JCPOA agreed to continue contacts. "The Russian side aims for further intensive work on the systematic implementation of the JCPOA in all its aspects, relying on a calibrated balance of interests and the principle of reciprocity," the Foreign Ministry summarized.
