Mishustin to Participate in CIS Council of Heads of Government Meeting in Ashgabat

24 May

Russian Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin will visit Turkmenistan to attend the meeting of the Council of Heads of Government of the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS). This marks his first foreign trip since his reappointment as the head of the Russian government.

The meeting will focus on various issues related to trade and economic cooperation within the CIS. Discussions will include expanding collaboration in key sectors such as energy, infrastructure, and industry.

According to the government apparatus, these topics are central to the agenda.

Nurlan Seitimov, the acting Deputy Secretary-General of the CIS, has indicated that the council will address 12 issues. These include the approval of concepts in the chemical industry and hazardous waste management, along with measures to implement adopted actions. One significant agenda item will be the declaration of Ashgabat as the city of new sports opportunities within the commonwealth. CIS experts have already agreed on a draft decision for the Council of Heads of Government to review.

The meeting is expected to endorse the Concept of Cooperation among CIS Member States in the Energy Sector until 2035. Additionally, an Action Plan for optimizing infrastructure and developing international transport corridors until 2030 will be considered.

Russia holds the chairmanship of the CIS in 2024.
