Russian President Vladimir Putin has signed a decree appointing Georgy Todua as the Russian ambassador to Cameroon. The official document has been published on the official portal of legal information.
"To appoint Georgy Vladimirovich Todua as Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Russian Federation to the Republic of Cameroon," the document reads.
In another decree, the president dismissed Anatoly Bashkin, who had served as Russia's ambassador to Cameroon since 2017. He was also relieved of the post of head of the Russian diplomatic mission in Equatorial Guinea, which he held part-time since 2018.
Georgy Todua, born in 1964, entered the diplomatic service in 1990. He has a background working in the central apparatus of the Russian Foreign Ministry and abroad. From December 2014 to July 2019, Todua served as the Russian ambassador extraordinary and plenipotentiary to Burundi. Following this, he worked as the deputy director of the Africa Department of the Russian Foreign Ministry. He holds the diplomatic rank of Envoy Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary First Class and is proficient in Spanish, French, English, and Georgian.
