13 October 2023

The CIS countries should enhance their collaboration with the majority of states worldwide, stated Russian President Vladimir Putin.

"It is essential to collaborate, uniting with like-minded nations from various regions of the world, especially those in the so-called global South, whose perspectives align closely with our own," he stated during a CIS Council of Heads of State meeting.

Continuing, Putin emphasized that the recent expansion of BRICS membership and the group's willingness to collaborate with partners who share its core values and ideals present additional opportunities. "Hence, the Russian side, which is set to chair the association in 2024, will give utmost attention to fostering cooperation between CIS countries and BRICS," he affirmed.

The president noted that the Russian Federation is set to chair both the CIS and BRICS in 2024. "This provides us with a unique opportunity to shape our relations with various organizations, including BRICS, in close consultation with you," he emphasized.

The Russian leader confirmed Moscow's endorsement of the draft joint statements awaiting approval by the leaders, which include topics such as "International Relations in a Multipolar World," "Protection of Human and Citizen's Right to Freedom of Religion," and "Cooperation in the Sphere of Digitalization in Public Administration." He also highlighted the importance of bolstering collective efforts among CIS states in combating terrorism.
