Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov to Attend SCO Foreign Ministers' Council in Astana

Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov will be in Astana on May 20-21 to participate in the meeting of the Council of Ministers of Foreign Affairs of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO). Maria Zakharova, the official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry, confirmed this during a briefing.

 

"At the meeting on May 20-21, the head of the Russian foreign policy agency [Sergey Lavrov] will take part in discussions with the foreign ministers of SCO member states in Astana," Zakharova stated.

 

She highlighted that the foreign ministers will discuss the current state and future prospects of the organization, along with relevant international and regional issues. "A key focus will be on the agenda for the upcoming meeting of the SCO Heads of State Council on July 3-4 in Astana, with an aim to enhance the organization's activities in contemporary conditions," Zakharova added.

 

Zakharova also mentioned that Lavrov is expected to have several bilateral meetings on the sidelines of the SCO Foreign Ministers' Council.

 

Previously, Bakhtier Khakimov, the special representative of the President of the Russian Federation for SCO Affairs, announced during a briefing that the next SCO summit would be held on July 3-4 in Astana.
