Russian Foreign Ministry: US and NATO Policies in Central Asia Threaten "Color Revolutions"

14 May

The policies of the US and their NATO and EU allies pose the danger of "color revolutions" for Central Asia, stated Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Mikhail Galuzin at the opening of the IV Central Asian Conference of the Valdai International Discussion Club.

Galuzin emphasized that the West "continues to attempt to reshape the region to its liking, secure access to its natural resources, control the transport corridors passing through it, and turn Central Asia into a staging ground for threats to Russia's security."

"The US and NATO are trying to involve Central Asian countries in so-called partnership programs and training, and continue to push for joint exercises in the region and the deployment of their infrastructure there," - noted the diplomat. - "We also see that Washington and Brussels are playing a dishonest game to achieve their ultimate goal - gaining access to the region's resource base and controlling the transport arteries passing through it, as well as the water management system. We believe that once these goals are achieved, the governments of Central Asian countries will no longer be fellow travelers for the West, and the threat of color revolutions will loom large."

Against this backdrop, Galuzin stressed that Russia "has been and remains a reliable partner for the countries of Central Asia." "A partner that firmly defends the sovereign right of Central Asian countries to independent development, in accordance with their long-term national interests, political and ethnocultural traditions," he added.
