Russian Presidential Aide Yuri Ushakov had another telephone conversation with US Presidential National Security Aide Jake Sullivan, Dmitry Peskov, spokesman for the Russian head of state, announced on Monday.
"Ushakov and Sullivan continued their discussion in the context of the well-known Russian proposals outlined in two draft documents and previously handed over to the American side," the Kremlin spokesman said.
"The discussion was businesslike and pragmatic," Peskov noted. "The presidents' aides agreed to continue contacts," he added.
On December 17, the Russian Foreign Ministry circulated two Russian draft documents on the provision of legal security guarantees by the United States and the North Atlantic Alliance. Earlier it was reported that Ushakov told Sullivan that Moscow was ready to immediately start negotiations on the draft documents. Russia will be represented at the consultations by Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Ryabkov
Earlier, Russian President Vladimir Putin called on NATO to start substantive negotiations in order to provide Russia with reliable and long-term security guarantees. He specified that Moscow needed legal guarantees because its Western colleagues had not fulfilled their respective verbal commitments.
