The Kremlin considers the incident with the British destroyer in the Black Sea a provocation, presidential spokesman Dmitry Peskov said.
"We regret the fact that it was a deliberate provocation, conscious and prepared. We are certainly concerned about such actions of the British ship. We consider such actions unacceptable and inconsistent with international law," Peskov told reporters.
He stressed that the Russian border guards and the Armed Forces will continue to act strictly in accordance with the law and take a tough stance.
The day before, the Defense Ministry said that the British destroyer Defender entered three kilometers into Russian waters near Cape Fiolent (Crimea). After the border patrol ship opened warning fire and the Su-24M carried out "warning bombing" on the course of the destroyer, it left the water area.
In its turn, the British Ministry of Defense claims that the naval ship was making a peaceful passage through the territorial waters of Ukraine in accordance with international law, and no warning shots were fired.
