The FSB has detained a supporter of a terrorist organization operating on the territory of Syria who was preparing a terrorist attack in Transbaikalia. This was reported to TASS on Monday by the Russian Federal Security Service's Public Relations Center.
"The Federal Security Service in Chita detained a supporter of the international terrorist organization Hayat Tahrir al-Sham (banned in Russia), a citizen of the Russian Federation, who planned to commit a terrorist act against law enforcement officers in the Transbaikal region," the PRC reported.
After the attack, he planned to go to Syria to participate in the combat operations in the terrorist groups. Two improvised explosive devices with a total mass of 400 grams of TNT equivalent, an improvised detonator, three grenades, cleaned AK-103 rifle and Makarov pistol, rebuilt for shooting with live ammunition, a large number of ammunition and banned religious literature were taken at his place of residence.
"The suspect has repented and is cooperating with the investigation," the FSB noted. A criminal case was opened against the detainee for preparation for a terrorist act, receiving training for the purpose of terrorist activity, illegal turnover of weapons and ammunition, illegal acquisition of explosives and explosive devices and illegal alteration of firearms.
