The FSB liquidated in the Murmansk region an armed supporter of the Islamic state (IS) terrorist organization banned in Russia, who was preparing terrorist attacks at military facilities. This was reported to TASS on Thursday in the Center for public relations (CPR) of the Federal security service (FSB).

"The Federal security service in the Murmansk region has suppressed the activities of an active supporter of the international terrorist organization (ITO) "Islamic state", a local resident, who was planning to commit terrorist acts at military facilities in the region on instructions from foreign ITO emissaries," the CPR reported.

He was attempted to be detained when he extracted an improvised explosive device from a cache he had equipped beforehand on the outskirts of Kandalaksha. "He offered armed resistance to the Russian Federal security service officers and was killed in retaliation. There were no casualties among civilians and law enforcement officers," the FSB reported.

Searches of the terrorist's residence and temporary residence addresses and inspection of the scene revealed a ready-to-use improvised explosive device and components for its manufacture, cold and firearms, ammunition of various calibers, as well as means of conspiratorial communication. "This confirms the intentions of the neutralized terrorist to commit terrorist acts," the FSB concluded.
