FSB detains 11 members of underground Islamic State (IS) cell in Karachay-Cherkessia

The FSB detained 11 members of an underground cell of the international terrorist organization Islamic State (IS), which is banned in Russia, in Karachay-Cherkessia. This was reported to TASS by the Center for Public Relations (CPR) of the FSB.


"The Federal Security Service on the territory of the Karachay-Cherkessia Republic detained 11 Russian citizens - members of an underground cell of the international terrorist organization IS banned on the territory of the Russian Federation, involved in the recruitment of residents of the region in terrorist activities, as well as its propaganda in the Internet", noted in the FSB.


During searches of the detainees, 10 firearms, a Makarov pistol, a sawn-off hunting rifle, three grenades, a large quantity of ammunition and communication devices with materials exposing their illegal activities were seized. With respect to the detainees a criminal case was opened under Article 205.4 of the Criminal Code ("Organization and participation in terrorist activities") and Part 2 of Article 205.2 of the Criminal Code (" Terrorist propaganda").


The agency also reported that the court arrested all the detainees.
