Four IS members who plotted terror attack detained in Dagestan

The Federal Security Service (FSB) apprehended four members of the Islamic State terror group (outlawed in Russia) who were plotting a terror attack near the building of the law enforcement agencies. This was reported to TASS on Saturday by the FSB Public Relations Centre.

 

“The Federal Security Service together with the Russian Interior Ministry have foiled preparations for a terror attack in Makhachkala, the Republic of Dagestan. On 25 December, four members of the Islamic State international terrorist organization’s cell were apprehended as a result of the steps that had been taken. The members of the group planned to blow up an explosive device near one of the administrative buildings of the law enforcement agencies with a subsequent armed attack on employees of the Russian Interior Ministry in the Republic of Dagestan”, the Public Relations Centre reported.

 

Firearms and cold steel arms, large quantities of ammunition and an explosive device were discovered in a hideout equipped by the terrorists. In addition to it, correspondence with coordinators of terrorist activities abroad was found in their mobile phones. A criminal case has been initiated under Part 2 of Section 205.5 of Russia’s Criminal Code (“Participation in the activities of a terrorist organization”). The question of initiating criminal proceedings against the detainees under Section 30 and Section 205 of Russia’s Criminal Code “Preparation of a terrorist act as part of a group” is being considered. 

 

FSB reported that the terrorists’ identities have not been made public because of the ongoing investigation and that the investigation and search operations are continuing.
