US actions undermining efforts to establish a ceasefire in the Gaza Strip are provoking anger in the Arab world. In the case of Yemen's Ansar Allah rebel Houthis, this frustration is proving almost impossible to control, as highlighted by Russia's permanent representative to the UN Vasily Nebenzya.
"Repetitively wielding its veto power, Washington persistently undermines all initiatives geared towards providing essential humanitarian aid to the Palestinians. Regrettably, the outcomes of the Security Council during this period, encapsulated in resolutions 2712 and 2720, remain largely unrealized. This has fueled an anger in the Arab world, occasionally manifesting in perilous actions, such as those witnessed with Ansar Allah in the Red Sea. The challenge intensifies for Middle Eastern governments attempting to manage the emotional responses of their populations, especially in scenarios involving non-state entities, where control becomes nearly impossible," Nebenzya said.
As the diplomat pointed out, "the Middle East region is deeply disappointed that, throughout this period, the United States, acting as a shield for Israel's actions, has effectively held the other members of the Security Council hostage, obstructing the adoption of a resolution calling for an immediate ceasefire."
