Russia will continue cooperation with Lebanon to combat the spread of the coronavirus infection, Russian Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin said Thursday at talks in Moscow with Lebanese Council of Ministers Chairman Saad Hariri.
The Russian Cabinet chief noted that interaction between the two countries at the governmental level is taking place, including within the framework of a bilateral intergovernmental commission, co-chaired by the head of Rosstandart, Anton Shalaev.
"We are ready to continue to cooperate within the framework of this work on the fight against the coronavirus infection. We have provided you with humanitarian aid, we have supplied Lebanon with reagents. We will continue this mutual activity," Mishustin said.
According to Mishustin, the trade turnover between Russia and Lebanon decreased against the background of the pandemic by 38% and it is necessary to restore this index.
"We want to give a new impetus to our trade and economic cooperation. Unfortunately, due to the coronavirus infection, our mutual trade turnover decreased by 38% and is now about $320 million. Of course, we are not satisfied with this situation, we need to correct it and increase the mutual trade turnover," Mishustin said.
He suggested his interlocutor discussing the issues of trade and economic cooperation, which require joint attention of the two governments. "It is very important to attract investment, it is necessary to create the most favorable conditions for investors. There are good opportunities for this in industry, mechanical engineering, agro-industrial complex, and transport infrastructure. We are happy to offer the Lebanese side the most modern digital technologies and services in various spheres of industry and economy," Mishustin said.
