Russian President Vladimir Putin discussed Nagorno-Karabakh with the head of the European Council, Charles Michel, taking into account the importance of further implementation of the statements of the leaders of Russia, Azerbaijan and Armenia, the Kremlin press service reported.
"The current situation around Nagorno-Karabakh was discussed taking into account the importance of further consistent implementation of the November 9, 2020, and January 11, 2021 statements of the leaders of Russia, Azerbaijan and Armenia. The unblocking of economic and transport ties in the region, and the resolution of humanitarian problems of the population were among the priority tasks. Charles Michel expressed his support for the work being done, including through the co-chairs of the OSCE Minsk Group (Russia, USA and France)," the statement reads.
The hostilities resumed in Nagorno Karabakh at the end of September 2020 which became the continuation of the conflict lasting many years and resulted in casualties among civilians. The parties made several attempts to conclude a ceasefire, but a trilateral agreement reached on the night of November 10 was successful. With Russian mediation, Azerbaijan and Armenia agreed to a complete cease-fire and to an exchange of prisoners and deceased bodies. Yerevan also gave Kelbajar, Lachin and Agdam districts to Baku. In addition, Russian peacekeepers were stationed in the region.
