The Azerbaijani Defense Ministry announced the death of two officers as a result of shelling by the Armenian military. "On the night of July 13-14, fierce fighting continued in the Tovuz district. < ... > Major General Polad Hashimov and Colonel Ilgar Mirzayev were killed <...> in the morning," Deputy head of the Military Department, Lieutenant General Karim Valiyev said.
Yerevan also reported casualties among the officers.
"As a result of enemy fire on the North-Eastern section of the Armenian-Azerbaijani state border, Major Garush Ambartsumyan and Captain Sos Elbakyan were fatally injured," Shushan Stepanyan, a spokesperson for the Defense Ministry, wrote on Facebook.
The fighting that started on July 12 on the Armenian-Azerbaijani border continues for the third day in the neighboring regions of Tovuz and Tavush, which also border Georgia and are located several hundred kilometers from the unrecognized Nagorno-Karabakh, where the situation is now calm.
In the place of attacks, there are combat posts stationed near the village of Movses. According to Baku, six Azerbaijani soldiers, including a General, were killed. The Armenian side claimed two victims.
Azerbaijan and Armenia blame each other for the attacks. The international community calls on the parties to engage in dialogue. The Russian Foreign Ministry said it is ready to provide assistance to Baku and Yerevan to stabilize the situation.
