CSTO: there is a real information war going on in the organization's area of responsibility

06 July 2022

A real information war has been launched in the area of responsibility of the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO), with an exponential increase in the number of computer attacks. Alexander Kuznetsov, a representative of the CSTO secretariat, said this on Wednesday at the IX "Inforum - Sochi" Southern Forum of Information Security.

"The number of cyber attacks on the information infrastructures of our states is growing. There is an exponential growth of computer attacks and their number has multiplied, most of them are complex in nature. This year, the challenges in this area have become even more acute, more serious and more extensive. In fact, a true aggression is unleashed, a war in the information space in the area of responsibility of the CSTO," he said.

According to Kuznetsov, coordinated information attacks are carried out from different states and are undertaken not by single hackers, but by "state structures. "It is known for a fact that the armed forces of a number of states include the so-called cyber forces. Some countries have more than a decade of experience with this kind of structures," he continued. - "There are purposeful attempts to disable Internet resources of critical information infrastructure of our states".

Kuznetsov explains that the first to be attacked are mass media, financial institutions, government agencies, mass socially significant portals and networks as well as health and other institutions. "State-of-the-art algorithms and combined technologies are being used. More and more sophisticated software is being used, capable of hitting devices and various operating systems," he stressed.
