Deputy Chairman of the Federation Council Committee on Foreign Affairs, Deputy Chairman of the Group of Strategic Vision Russia-Islamic World Farit Mukhametshin held a meeting with Ahmed Salem al-Wahishi, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Yemen to the Russian Federation.
Farit Mukhametshin expressed readiness to further develop parliamentary ties with colleagues from Yemen and also emphasized the importance of interaction through the Russian-Yemeni Friendship Society.
"Strengthening the comprehensive dialogue with partners from Yemen, above all, contributes to maintaining ties in the field of education and culture, the development of socially important projects," the Senator noted.
Farit Mukhametshin informed Ahmed Salem al-Wahishi about preparation for the World International Conference on Inter-religious and Inter-ethnic Dialogue to be held in Russia in May 2022.
As Deputy Chairman of the GSV, Farit Mukhametshin drew attention to the fact that the Group had earlier proposed a series of events aimed at strengthening inter-ethnic, inter-religious and inter-civilization dialogue in the run-up to the Conference.
Farit Mukhametshin and Ahmed Salem al-Wahishi discussed the Group's plans for 2021, in which Yemen intends to participate actively. The next outreach meeting of the GSV will be held in Jeddah (Kingdom of Saudi Arabia) in October of this year. The topic of the upcoming annual meeting is "Russia - Islamic World: Dialogue and Prospects for Cooperation.
The head of Yemen's diplomatic mission noted the importance of strengthening bilateral relations toward the development of humanitarian ties, and also expressed gratitude to the Russian side for helping the Yemeni people in the difficult socio-economic situation.
"We highly appreciate Moscow's efforts to resolve the conflict situation in the Republic of Yemen in accordance with the UN resolutions," Ahmed Salem al-Wahishi said.
