Relations between Russia and Iran have significantly strengthened in recent years and remain important not only for the region but also for the world, Iranian Ambassador to Moscow Mehdi Sanaei said at a press conference today.
"Our relations have great experience and a long history. But in recent years, these relations have deepened and become stronger, and the nature of strategic relations prevailed, including in the fight against terrorism in the region, the Middle East and Syria. Mutual trust has risen, " RIA Novosti quoted an Iranian diplomat as saying.
Sanaei also stressed the role of Iranian-Russian relations in restoring peace in the region and in the fight against terrorism.
"We understand more deeply the statement of the Supreme leader of Iran Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, who said a few years ago that a powerful Russia and an independent Iran and the relations of these countries are useful for the region and the world," he added.
