Media: Incidents of Discrimination Against Muslims in the US Up 70%

30 July

The number of cases of discrimination against Muslims and Palestinians in the United States has surged by 70% in the first half of 2024, coinciding with the ongoing conflict in the Gaza Strip, according to data from the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR), as reported by Reuters.

In the first six months of 2024, CAIR received 4,900 reports of discrimination and hate crimes against Muslims and Palestinians, a significant increase compared to the same period in 2023. Human rights activists note that most complaints were related to discrimination in education, employment, and asylum.

In 2023, CAIR received approximately 8,000 complaints of discrimination and hate crimes, including 3,600 in the last three months of the year following the escalation of the Palestinian-Israeli conflict.
